'Suspicious' Purse Shuts Down Road

Easton police determine a purse, tossed from a vehicle onto Northampton Street, did not pose a risk to public safety.

A portion of Northampton Street was shut down for nearly two hours Tuesday while police investigated a report of a "suspicious" purse, Easton police said.

Bethlehem Fire HazMat responded and determined the purse, reportedly tossed from a vehicle at 11:43 a.m. onto Seventh Street/Northampton Street, was not a risk to public safety, police said.

Northampton Street, from Sixth Street to Ninth Street, was closed until 1:27 p.m. while authorities investigated.

Police did not disclose the purse's contents but said nothing suspicious was found inside.
