Strange Package Sent to Weed & Seed

Easton police investigate as community group gets unexplained brown powder in the mail.

are investigating a strange package that wound up at the city's Weed & Seed office Thursday morning.

The package -- an envelope addressed to program director Laura Accetta -- contained no dangerous biological or chemical agents, said Lt. Matthew Gerould. 

According to the Express-Times, Acetta found the envelope when she arrived this morning. Inside was a plain white piece of paper dusted with a brown powder.

Police and hazardous materials crews responded and evacuated the office at 1201 Ferry St. in Easton's West Ward. The envelope was taken away in a protective bag, and police say they are working with the U.S. Postal Service to determine who sent it.
