Shooting Victim Has Misled Investigators, Police Say

Jason E. Smith was shot during apparent robbery Monday on South Side.

A man who was shot during an apparent robbery Monday on Easton's South Side has slowed the investigation by giving police inconsistent statements.

That's according to the Express-Times, which also details victim Jason E. Smith's criminal history, including 84 months in federal prison for cocaine trafficking.

Smith's attorney told the paper his client is a victim, "not a suspect in a crime."

Smith was shot early Monday on the 200 block of E. Wilkes-Barre Street.

Police are looking for two men:

  • One is a black man, with dark skin, a slim build, standing about 5 feet 8 inches, with "bushy" hair.
  • The second man is also black. He was tall and thin and wore a mask.
Police are also looking for two vehicles that could be connected to the shooting: one they simply described as "orange," the other a black BMW with tinted windows, blue headlights and silver around the rims.

Anyone with information is asked to call Inspector Daniel Reagan at 610-250-6796 or the police tip line at 610-250-6635.
