Police: Wilson Man Had Meth, Stolen License Plate

A Wilson man who was at the Park and Ride lot near Interstate 78 and Route 412 inBethlehem early Saturday is accused of having crystal meth and admitted to police that a license plate stolen two days before was on his Mercury Mountaineer, court records say.

A Bethlehem officer spotted the Mountaineer and its driver, Charles S. Poff III, 39, while patrolling the lot around 12:08am. He made a check on the license plate and found it had been reported stolen Thursday to Wilson police.

Poff admitted to police he put the stolen plate on the vehicle. The actual plate was in plain sight inside the vehicle, the records say.

Police found crystal meth inside a metal rectangular case and in a Marlboro cigarette box.

Poff, of 1803 Spring Garden St., was charged with receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance – crystal meth, possession of paraphernalia and driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked.

He was arraigned Saturday morning by on-duty District Judge Douglas Schlegel of Wind Gap and committed to after failing to post $5,000 bail.
