Police: Man Assaulted Wilson Officer

Police in Wilson say a Palmer Township man broke into his ex-girlfriend's apartment, then assaulted a borough police officer who responded to the break-in.

According to the Express-Times, Derrick Furman, 20, of Country Side Court, let himself into his ex-girlfriend's apartment at 2300 Second Street Tuesday morning.

Police said Furman had broken a screen from the woman's window and climbed in. The ex-girlfriend called the police. When the responding officer -- Daniel Dieter -- tried to take Furman into custody, Furman allegedly tried to pull away from him, causing Dieter to fall to the ground.

Furman is charged with aggravated assault, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and loitering. He was arraigned before in Wilson and sent to in lieu of $25,000 bail.
