Man Headed to Trial for Easton Burglaries

Police say Michael Carthens confessed to stealing from a number of Downtown businesses in 2010.

A man who's already in state prison is heading to trial for allegedly burglarizing a number of downown Easton businesses.

City police say Michael Carthens, 41, and formerly of Easton, confessed earlier this year to a series of break-ins in December 2010. He waived his hearing Tuesday before , which means his case now heads to Northampton County Court.

Carthens is already serving time in state prison on unrelated charges. He was one of the people on Fifth Street.

According to court papers, the businesses burglarized included , Pizza, the Third Street Cafe, and . Police were able to identify Carthens after seeing him on video surveillance footage.

He is charged with burglary and theft, as well as another theft charge connected to his alleged use of a woman's debit card without her authorization.
