Mom: Lafayette Student Dies From Alcohol

Mother of Everett Glenn says her son, a freshman at Lafayette, died after drinking at his own birthday party.

A Lafayette College student died Saturday after celebrating his 19th birthday.

Police were called to Lafayette College at 2:01 p.m. yesterday and found an unresponsive student in his dorm at the Kirby House residence hall.

The freshman, identified as Everett Glenn, was taken to Easton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, college President Daniel Weiss told the campus in a message posted on the Lafayette website.

Glenn's mother, of Montclair, N.J., told The Express Times he died from overindulging in alcohol at his own birthday party. He turned 19 Saturday.

"The [official] cause of death is being investigated by the Northampton County Coroner’s Office and the Easton Police Department, assisted by the Office of Public Safety. Investigators have indicated that as of this point in the investigation, there is no sign of foul play involved," Weiss wrote.

"My thoughts are with Everett’s parents and other family members at this extremely difficult time," the message reads. "I extend to them my heartfelt condolences. My thoughts are also with our students and all members of our community who share in this tragic loss."

Glenn was known as "Mr. Mayor" around campus, the report states, for his ability to make friends quickly, according to the report. A service in his honor was held at the college Saturday evening.

The college Twitter account posted this message Sunday morning: "We mourn the death of Everett Glenn ’15. Our heartfelt condolences go to all who knew and loved him at this time..."
