Man Dies Following West Ward Shooting

Easton police say men may have shot each other in Sunday altercation.

One man is dead and another one wounded following a Sunday night shooting in Easton's West Ward, city police said Monday.

The shooting happened between 9 and 9:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Spruce Street, but by the time police arrived, both victims had apparently gotten themselves to local hospitals.

One of the victims died, and the case is being treated as a homicide.

An autospy was scheduled for 11 a.m. today, said Lt. Matthew Gerould.

This is the city's first homicide of the year, and the first since the death of in March 2011. But it was the second double shooting in the city in a week. Last Sunday, two men were shot in neighborhood.

Police have not released the names of either man involved in Sunday's shooting. Investigators say it's not clear whether the men shot each other, or were on the same side of a larger altercation.

"We're not ruling either possibility out," Gerould said.

According to the Express-Times, the shooting happened in the parking lot of .

Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli said investigators need to determine what kind of homicide it was; it's possible it will be a justifiable homicide if it turns out the victims were shooting each other.

Police had been looking for a red Saturn in connection with the shooting, but said it was located in Whitehall Township.
