Suspect's Immigration Status Questioned

Man accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend and her daughter at their Wilson home is the subject of a federal investigation into his immigration status, according to court records.

A man charged with breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home in Wilson about a year ago and assaulting the woman and her daughter is the subject of a federal investigation into his immigration status, court records say.

The records for Alejandro Rincon, 23, include an immigration detainer from the Department of Homeland Security out of Florida. It says the department has started an investigation of whether he is “subject to removal from the United States.”

The records say Rincon was born on Christmas Day in Veracruz, Mexico, and that he will need an interpreter for his preliminary hearing. The records list his current address as “unknown, Easton.”

Rincon was taken into custody Friday and is in Northampton County Prison after failing to post $25,000 bail. The alleged incident with which he is charged occurred on July 31, 2011. The records do not say how authorities were able to locate Rincon.

A criminal complaint filed by Wilson Patrolman Michael Vernotica says:

--Police were called to the 400 block of Fox Circle around 12:43 a.m. on July 31, 2011. Rincon’s ex-girlfriend said only a few minutes had passed since he had broken into her home. She had a protection-from-abuse order against him and he was not allowed inside, she said.

--The woman said she was asleep in a second-floor bedroom with the door locked when suddenly the door flew open and Rincon entered. When she got out of bed to ask him why he was there, he punched her in the left side of the face.

--Her daughter (no age given)  then came into the room and he allegedly hit her in the mouth. He broke a bedroom window, then fled in an unknown direction.

--Police noticed the home’s front window was shattered and glass was all over the living room. They saw a large brick lying on the living room floor next to the window.

Rincon was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, simple assault and harassment. He was arraigned by on-duty District Judge John Capobianco of Nazareth.
