Hallucinating Man Had 54 Packets of Heroin, Police Say

South Side resident Shawn McAvoy charged with drug offenses after allegedly running into police while hallucinating.

Easton police say a man who was hallucinating after ingesting PCP was also carrying 54 packets of heroin.

Shawn McAvoy, 19, of the 500 block of Valley St., was charged Thursday with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

According to a police news release, officers were called to McAvoy's home just after midnight for a reported domestic dispute involving him and his sister.

They found McAvoy two blocks away from the house, where he apparently told police he was being followed by a group of people who wanted to hurt him.

McAvoy's sister told police her brother had ingested PCP, and it was obvious to the officers that McAvoy was hallucinating, the release says. When police searched him for weapons before he was taken away by ambulance, they found 54 packets of heroin in his pockets.

McAvoy was arraigned before on-duty District Judge Todd Strohe in Bangor, and sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
