Guilty Plea Coming in Hidden Gun Case

Shaniese Stokes expected to plead guilty to charges connected to brawl in Easton.

A woman accused of trying to hide a handgun from Easton police during a street brawl last month is expected to plead guilty.

Shaniese Stokes, 24, of 819 Ferry St., will plead guilty to an illegal gun charge and receiving stolen property, her attorney said Monday during a preliminary hearing before District Judge James Stocklas in downtown Easton.

Both charges will be reduced to misdemeanors under a plea agreement with Northampton County prosecutors, defense attorney Dwight Danser said. She is expected to enter a guilty plea at her arraignment on May 2.

According to Easton police, the case began early on the morning of Feb. 9 when officers responded to a street fight on the 900 block of Ferry Street. Police say officers saw Stokes take a silver revolver from a man in the crowd and then throw it under a truck.

As police were trying to detain Stokes, she allegedly kicked the gun farther under the truck, while also struggling and trying to avoid being handcuffed.
