Fake Water Workers Rob Wilson Woman

Wilson police are warning residents about scammers posing as water company employees.

Police in Wilson say an elderly borough resident was robbed Friday by two men posing as water company workers.

According to police, two men talked their way into a home on the 900 block of 24th Street, telling the woman who lived there that they needed to check her water due to an apparent problem in the neighborhood.

Police said one man went into the woman's bathroom. She stayed in her doorway the entire time. The men were in the house for several minutes. The woman didn't immediately notice anything stolen, but found cash and jewelry missing from her bedroom the next day.

The men may have been Hispanic, police said, and both wore dark clothing. They were both in their late 20s, with thin builds. One was about 5 feet 6 inches, the other taller. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Chris Meehan at 610-258-8542.

Police caution residents that anyone coming to your house from a utility company should have ID. If someone seems suspicious, call the police.
