Easton Shooting Suspect Hid Out in N.J., Police Say

About five months after two men were shot in Easton’s Neston Heights neighborhood, police have -- a 19-year-old Easton High School graduate known by some as “Trizz” who apparently has been living in Newark, N.J., his place of birth.

Court records say DaShawn Cosme, 19, was taken into custody Friday and charged with two counts of attempted homicide and other crimes. Cosme fired at least four rounds from a handgun, the records say.

He was committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail. His address is listed as 600 Canal St., Apt. C1, in Easton.

An arrest warrant for Cosme was issued three days after he allegedly shot Cedric Boswell and Jerome Davis shortly before 5pm on March 25, a Sunday, on the 500 block of Ann Street. 

A criminal complaint says Cosme allegedly fired shots from the passenger rear side of a Chrysler SUV. It also says Boswell and another man were fighting, the other man was injured and taken to the SUV before Cosme allegedly fired the shots. Boswell, 39, is a Neston Heights resident and was charged after the shooting in an assault case that happened before the shooting, according to previously published stories.

Mayor Sal Panto said at the time of the shooting that it may have been triggered by an , according to a previous story on Patch.com.

The complaint, filed by Det. Darren Snyder of Easton police’s criminal investigation division, also says:

--Witnesses said both victims fled after the March 25 shooting. Police spotted multiple blood droplets and found four shell casings on the 500 block of Ann Street.

--The next day, Snyder spoke to Boswell and Davis at St. Luke’s University Hospital, Fountain Hill, where they were being treated. Both said they were shot by the back door of 534 Ann St. Boswell said he would be able to identify the shooter if he saw him.

--On March 27, Snyder spoke with a woman who said the shooter lived at the apartment complex at 600 Canal Street in a basement unit in the C building. She said the apartment was the only one on the floor across from the laundry room. That description matched Apt. C1, which turned out to be Cosme’s address.

--Det. Joseph Alonzo created a photo array and showed it to Boswell on March 27. Boswell identified the shooter as Cosme. Boswell also said the shooter fired from the rear passenger side of a Chrysler SUV parked in the driveway of 534 Ann St. 

--Also on March 27, Snyder interviewed a woman who said she was at 534 Ann St. at the time of the shooting. She said there was a fight between two males – one she recognized as Boswell and the other she knew as “Ty.”

--She said Ty was injured and taken to the driver’s side rear door of the SUV. She saw a friend of Ty’s go to the passenger side rear door and then heard gunfire from that side of the vehicle. She said Ty’s friend was standing. She added that she was certain the shooter was not Ty, whom she could see from her vantage point.

--Shown a photo array of Cosme, the woman said he was Ty’s friend who was at the passenger side rear door.

The records also say that since March, Cosme has lived in Newark, N.J. where he was born. They also say he was an Easton High School grad and does not have a job.

In addition to two counts of attempted homicide, Cosme was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. He was arraigned by on-duty District Judge John Capobianco of Nazareth.
