Easton Police: Man Threw Beer Bottle at Boy

Police say an Easton boy needed 34 stiches after a "family friend" threw a beer bottle at him.

A man described as a “family friend” is charged with throwing a beer bottle at a boy around 1:30 in the morning Thursday, causing cuts that required 34 stitches.

Vernon Leroy Fountain Jr., 22, is also charged with hitting a woman in the face in the July 28 incident on the 100 block of S. Sixth Street in Easton. And he is wanted by on a probation/parole violation, court records say.

City Patrolman Eric Siegfried, who filed a criminal complaint, said he was dispatched to the S. Sixth Street address around 1:22am on July 28 – a Saturday. He found the boy – his age was not specified -- bleeding from lacerations on the chest and left arm. The cuts required 34 stitches.

The child and the woman said Fountain, whom they called a “family friend,” threatened to kill them. The boy said Fountain – listed as 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds -- threw the beer bottle from less that six to 10 feet away. It shattered when it hit him and caused the cuts, the boy said.

The complaint does not say how police found Fountain. It lists three addresses for him – two in Easton and one in Phillipsburg.

Fountain was charged with one count of aggravated assault, a felony; two counts each of terroristic threats and harassment, and one count each of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

He was arraigned Wednesday night by on-duty District Judge Jackie Taschner of Palmer Township and committed to after failing to post $20,000 bail.
