Easton Murder Suspect Jailed

Naheem Adams, accused of killing George Jeter, had been arrested in Brooklyn last month.

An Easton man accused in the fatal shooting of a city resident over the summer is behind bars.

City police had charged Naheem Adams with criminal homicide in the death of George Jeter in July and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Adams, 20, of 723 Pine St., was arrested on Halloween at his mother's home in Brooklyn. He was brought back to Easton Tuesday night, arraigned before District Judge Daniel Corpora and sent to Northampton County Prison, where he was being held without bail.

Jeter, 28, of S. 14th Street, was shot to death July 27 on the 1400 block of Butler Street. According to court records, a witness saw Adams -- who goes by the nickname "Dot" -- fleeing the scene.

Another witness saw Adams in the vicinity of the shooting before Jeter was killed.

Police say they recovered two small-caliber shell casings from the scene. An autopsy later found two small-caliber bullets inside Jeter's body.

Jeter was Easton's third homicide victim of 2012. In April, a man named Matthew Kelly, a 20-year-old Nazareth native, was shot and killed in the West Ward. His death is still under investigation.

In early July, Easton resident William Thompson, 43, died after being stabbed several times on the 600 block of Ferry Street. Police have , with criminal homicide in Thompson's death.
