Easton Man Jailed on Gun Charge
James Allen Hein had an unlicensed gun, Easton police say.
An Easton man attempted to hide a loaded, unlicensed handgun in a car occupied by a woman and her 1-year-old daughter, and earlier lifted up his shirt during an argument with two others to display a gun in his waistband, court records say.
detained the suspect, James Allen Hein, 28, around 7pm Tuesday shortly after he tried to hide the gun in a gold Honda occupied by the woman and her daughter. The incident occurred in the area of 6th and Ferry streets.
When Hein was rolled over from a face-down position, a handgun – a Walther PK380 – fell out of his waistband onto the ground. The gun had a round in the chamber and a loaded magazine, the records say.
Police learned that Hein did not have a license to carry a concealed firearm and that he was on probation from a marijuana possession case in Carbon County. A search at the Easton scene found that Hein had a marijuana cigarette on him.
Meanwhile, two people told officers that during an argument, Hein pulled up his shirt to show them he had a handgun tucked into his waistband.
Hein, of 140 Bushkill St., Apt./Suite 3, was arraigned later Tuesday night by on-duty District Judge Douglas Schlegel of Wind Gap on charges of firearms not to be carried without a license, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, disorderly conduct and possession or distribution of a small amount of marijuana.
He was committed to after failing to post $30,000 bail.
