Burglar Swiped Another Man's ID, Police Say

Newark resident Peter Murphy allegedly claimed he was Easton man, faces new charges.

On Sunday, Easton police filed burglary charges against Terique Grayman after a South Side family found him in their kitchen.

The only problem was that the burglar's real name wasn't Terique Grayman.

City police said Wednesday that they'd filed charges against a man they now know as Peter Murphy, whom they say had Grayman's driver's license and "mirrored the picture and physical traits." Charges in Grayman's name have been withdrawn.

Police say Murphy, 19, of Newark took a television worth $319, cash and loose change totaling $7.19 and some food items from a home on the 300 block of Palmer Street early Sunday.

He was caught a few blocks away and taken into custody, where he apparently assumed Grayman's identity.

Murphy had been charged burglary, criminal trespass and theft by unlawful taking or disposition. Police added two new charges -- giving false identification to law enforcement and underage drinking.

He remains in Northampton County Prison with bail set at $75,000.
