Republicans Sweep Northampton County Council Race

Voters choose five Republican candidates in a 10-person race for Northampton County Council.

Tuesday was a good night for Northampton County Republicans, with GOP candidates winning both the county executive's office and a majority on county council, according to unofficial results.

With 90 percent of the votes in, voters had chosen five Republicans to serve on council, re-electing veteran Councilwoman Peg Ferraro and four newcomers:

  • Mat Benol, a former Tea Party Chairman from Palmer Township.
  • Glenn Geisinger, a businessman from Plainfield Township.
  • Hayden Phillips, first-time candidate and Hewlett Packard project manager from Lower Nazareth.
  • Seth Vaughn, a Bethlehem physician's assistant who ran for county council in 2012.
The Democratic candidates were:

  • Christen Borso, a Bethlehem business owner and member of the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission.
  • Ronald Heckman, a former councilman and director of human services from Bethlehem.
  • Deborah Hunter, a former Nazareth Area School Board member.
  • Tom O'Donnell, a former Lower Nazareth supervisor.
  • Gerald Seyfried, a former county executive and councilman from Lower Nazareth.
When they take office next year, they'll be joined by a new Republican county executive, Bangor Mayor John Brown.
