Sinkholes Will Shut Palmer Road for Days

Two sinkholes open up along Northwood Avenue in Palmer Township Thursday afternoon after crews were working on a water main break.

A portion of Northwood Avenue in Palmer Township will be closed for several days due to sinkholes, PennDOT announced Thursday afternoon.

Palmer/Forks Patch.com was on the scene along Northwood Avenue just after leaving Forks Township after the Tatamy Road intersection and saw two sinkholes on each side of the road that crews were working on.

The sinkholes opened up after utility crews were working on repairing a water main break earlier Thursday.

The road closure is between Van Buren Road and Tatamy Road.

There were reports of low and dirty water around Palmer and Forks townships Thursday due to the water main break.

One Palmer/Forks Facebook page viewer noted that there was no water near the Palmer Township library.

Another Facebook poster said she spoke to Easton Suburban and was told not to turn on the hot water because sediments will end up in the water heater and also, after a couple of hours, to let cold water run for a few minutes or until the water is clear before usage again.
