Easton Schools Fire 7 Workers, Suspend 4 Others

Teachers, nurses and maintenance workers lose jobs in wake of Easton budget gap.

The Easton Area School District has fired seven employees and suspended four others in an effort to balance its budget

On Tuesday, the school board approved a plan to eliminate 43 positions. Although some that will be accomplished through attrition, at least 11 people will be let go, according to a pair of district resolutions,

Seven workers will be terminated:

  • Technology integration specialists Rosanne Manmiller and Donna Kenlin
  • Teacher Elizabeth Danubio
  • Custodial/maintenance workers Dwayne Thorton, John Young, Jr., Robby Gold and Steven Conrad             

Four other workers will be suspended:
  • Teacher Sara Sottolano
  • Librarian Jacob Heck
  • English as a second language teacher Michele Danyi
  • School nurse Lauren Wieder                                                                          
Among the 43 positions cut were 11 assistant coaches. It's not clear yet which coaching positions will be eliminated.
