Easton Hospital employees collected enough food donations to provide a complete Thanksgiving Day meal to 68 families.
The is handling those donations, giving families a food package that includes cornbread mix, stuffing, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, soups, desserts and more – plus a $20 to $30 gift certificate for a turkey.
Kimberly Golden Benner, director of marketing for , said each tote was prepared for a specific family and the items were chosen just for them. They kept in mind the size of the family and provided enough for everyone, she said.
"A lot of people went above and beyond to help," Benner said.
In addition to the hospital's regular employees, several medical residents and private physicians’ offices donated to the food drive. They wanted to top last year’s count, but they didn’t expect to be able to help this many families, Benner said.
Last year, the hospital collected enough food for 40 families. It was the first year for the food drive, Benner said.
Drew Sandt, lead registrar for the emergency department, organized this year’s food drive with some assistance from Tabitha Jones, also an emergency department registrar. Sandt said he was glad to help, but happy it’s done.
His stress level has dropped "now that I know that everything is accounted for," Sandt said.
