Activist Behind Easton Gay Rights Law Wins Award

Adrian Shanker, one of the people who pushed Easton's domestic partner benefits law, is honored by "Philadelphia Gay News."

One of the people who lobbied for Easton and Allentown to pass domestic partner has been named one of the Philadelphia Gay News' People of the Year.

Adrian Shanker shares the award with Ted Martin; together, they head the group Equality PA. The Gay News said they were instrumental in 2011 in getting communities like Easton to adopt laws for LGBT residents.

"If they weren’t leading the effort in one municipality, they were second-behind the local leaders providing support," Brian Sims, a former board president of Equality PA, told the paper. "Their imprint is on every one of the municipal non-discrimination ordinances that were passed this year."
