National Building Has New Owner

Pomeroy/Silk Mill developer buys downtown landmark.

Easton's National Building has a new owner.

VM Development Group, the firm which handling the restoration of the Pomeroy's building and the Silk Mill, bought the property last week, said VM's Mark Mulligan.

Peter Koehler, whose has owned the National since 2000, sent letters to tenants Tuesday informing them of the sale.

"Nothing's going to change," Mulligan said. "We're going to operate exactly like Koehler-Kheel did in every respect."

Mulligan said his company had been discussing the move for the last several months. VM had been looking for an office in Easton to run its local projects. It will occupy the seventh-floor of the the National Building, at 400 Northampton Street.

Koehler was not immediately available for comment Tuesday.

The National was built in 1908, the one-time home of the Northampton National Bank. For many years, The Morning Call used it as its Easton headquarters. A variety of professionals rent office space in the building.
