Local Businesswoman Elected Library Association President

The Philadelphia Chapter of the Special Library Association has elected Valerie Ryder, Director of Information Strategy at Wolper Subscription Services in Easton, to serve as chapter president.

Valerie Ryder, director of information strategy at , was elected last week to serve as chapter president for the Philadelphia Chapter of the Special Libraries Association.

She will serve as president-elect in 2012 and as chapter president in 2013.

“I am honored that many of my colleagues in the library community have encouraged me and given me their vote of confidence to lead our professional organization,” said Ryder in a recent press release. “As a long-time corporate librarian, I appreciate the issues and challenges facing all types of libraries and industry players today. In this new leadership role, I will continue to strive to prove the relevance and value of corporate librarians to the organizations and constituents we serve.”

President and added, “Valerie is an expert in her field. I am proud to employ some of the best talent the industry has to offer, and I am glad that some of them are giving back to the profession by contributing their time and talents.”

Wolper Subscription Services, located on Easton's Centre Square, is an information management company with more than 30 years experience serving corporate, academic, medical, government, and public clients.

Founded in 1909, the Special Libraries Association is an international professional organization of more than 12,500 members in 56 regional chapters, including the Philadelphia chapter. Its goal is to “advance the leadership role of the special librarian/information professional by providing a variety of services to enhance it members’ professional skills and advance the interest of the special libraries communities,” according to a statement on its website.
