Want a Hot Dog at 2 a.m.? See Downtown Dawg

New Easton hot dog joint wants to offer affordable (and late night) food to downtown.

In an age when downtown Easton is undergoing a high-end restaurant renaissance, Nathan Haschak is keeping it simple.

"I just wanted to do something affordable, a quick, affordable meal," he said. "You come downtown, everything's a lot more pricey."

Hence Downtown Dawg, Haschak's new take-out/delivery hot dog place on N. Fourth Street, which opened in late March.

On Monday afternoon, Haschak was discussing his place while also dealing with phone orders. Downtown Dawg does a lot of delivery business, he said, within a "10 to 15 mile radius."

The menu includes regular hot dogs and chili dogs, plus sides such as french fries, baked beans and pierogies.

On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, Downtown Dawg stays open until 3 a.m. to accommodate the bar crowd.

"Slammed," Haschak said when asked about late night business. "We've got lines out the door."

In the past few years, Downtown Dawg's space has been home to a series of eateries, including a fish and chips restaurant, a soul food place, Phat Joe's, a sub joint.

Haschak is hoping for a longer tenure there. In addition to the deliveries and the late hours, he's added another amenity for the neighborhood: a little space labeled "Dawg Parking," where people walking their dogs can leash their pets while coming in to order food.
