Bites Nearby: Your Hometown Deli

New Nazareth deli revamps an old area business.

If you’ve never heard of Your Hometown Deli in Nazareth, that’s probably only because they just opened last month.

Your Hometown Deli opened on February 21st of this year, in the former location of the Nazareth Boro Deli on Spring Street. The entire interior was redecorated and remodeled for the new business. The walls have been repainted, the fixtures are all brand new, and the ambience is appealing.

The deli offers breakfast and lunch items, including sandwiches, hot and cold subs, and salads. Everything on the deli’s menu is homemade by the owners, who also work the counter. Specials are run on a weekly and monthly basis; this week’s special is a hot sausage-and-peppers sub; next week will be fresh pasties.

Anything on the menu, whether it be breakfast or a hoagie, is available any time of day. All of their rolls and bread come fresh from Lusitania Bakery in Bethlehem. Their crisp tomatoes are grown by neighbors in a private garden.

The deli’s most popular item in their brief history has been the Italian sub, which is made with ham, capicola, hard salami and provolone, and a choice of fresh toppings. The Reuben, a hot corn-beef and swiss sandwich, is also a contender.

The owner, Bob Pettinari, has been in the food and retail business for 30 years, but Your Hometown Deli is his first entrepreneurial endeavor.

“When I first came in here, I thought it had a lot of potential,” he said about the decision to open a business in Nazareth.

Pettinari is a lifelong resident of Bethlehem Township. Along with his partner, Bob Zuber, and son Eric Pettinari, he runs both the deli counter and the business side.

“It’s an older community around here, so we’re trying to attract that,” said Pettinari. The deli is already building a strong community clientele with its cozy down-home atmosphere. The newly-painted walls are adorned with nostalgic black-and-white pictures of Nazareth buildings and sports teams.

“We encourage anyone who comes in here with old history of the town they can part with, we’ll put it on the wall,” said Pettinari.

Your Hometown Deli, aside from its homemade subs and breakfast, also sells basic grocery items like bread and eggs, and dairy products from Lehigh Valley Farms. The deli carries Tastykakes, Coca-Cola products and IBC root beer as well. They are open seven days a week, and accept major credit cards. Stop by for a sub and help them celebrate their grand opening.
