Silent Movies Return to State Theatre

Maryland orchestra will provide soundtrack to silent films at the State April 22.

For the first time in more than 80 years, silent movies are heading back to Easton's .

The Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra, based in College Park, Md., will provide the soundtrack to three silent films Sunday, April 22 at the State.

The movies are:

  • Behind the Screen, from 1916, with Charlie Chaplin, who plays a studio worker who helps a young woman find a job, while his colleagues strike against their boss.
  • The Playhouse, a 1921 film with Buster Keaton playing over 20 different roles.
  • Buster Keaton again, in 1922's Cops, getting in trouble with the LAPD due to a series of mishaps.

According to the State Theatre, the orchestra will follow the movies with music by Scott Joplin and other artists from the ragtime era.
