Paquito D’Rivera and New York Voices to Perform at Lafayette

Legendary jazz musicians to play Williams Center on Wednesday.

Legendary jazz musicians Paquito D’Rivera and New York Voices will perform this week at Lafayette College's Williams Center to celebrate the 10th anniversary of a Grammy winning collaboration.

The group produced Brazilian Dreams, which won the 2003 Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Release. They'll perform Wednesday, at 8 p.m.

Both D'Rivera and the New York Voices are veterans of the Williams Center stage, the college said.

"With their lush stylish vocal arrangements, New York Voices, sets new standards for vocal improvisation," the college said in a news release. "D’Rivera’s unrivaled musicianship, melodic flair and stage presence charm his listeners with tunes that are at once passionate, soulful, and charged with the inner spark of Afro-Cuban swing."

Tickets are $22, and can be purchased online or by calling the box office at (610) 330-5009 from noon to 2 p.m. and 4 to 5 p.m., plus an hour before the show.

Before the show, there will be a talk by D’Rivera on American jazz and musical influences from Cuba and Brazil. Moderated by music professor Skip Wilkins, the talk is scheduled for 7 p.m. in room 108 of the Williams Center for the Arts.
