Lafayette Schedules Annual Holiday Concert

Lafayette College's Department of Music will hold its annual Holiday Season Concert Saturday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. at the Williams Center for the Arts.

The show finds Lafayette’s Percussion Ensemble, directed Professor J. Larry Stockton, teaming up with the Lafayette Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, led by Jennifer Kelly, associate professor of music and director of choral activities.

"The program offers a signature blend of world music and contemporary compositions along with some holiday favorites," the college said in a news release. "A special highlight will be the introduction of the new Zimbabwean-style bass marimba."

It's a free concert, but you'll need tickets. To get them, call the center's box office at (610) 330-5009 on weekdays between from noon to 2 p.m. and again from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The music department will hold two other shows at the Williams Center in early December. Both concerts are free, but tickets are required.

The college Jazz Ensemble plays Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 8 p.m., with a show that mixes classic arrangements from artists like Duke Ellington with works from contemporary musicians such as Matt Harris and Lennie Niehaus, along with original compositions and arrangements.

On Sunday, Dec. 8,  Marquis Consort, led by Jorge Torres, brings a program that ranges from 16th-century Spanish music to traditional Irish music.
