Titanic Memorial Cruise Features Lafayette Grad

A Lafayette grad and Titanic expert sets sail on a memorial cruise April 8

Lafayette College graduate John Eaton will set sail on a Titanic memorial cruise April 8 and share his research with his shipmates, according to alumi news from the college.

Eaton, of Cold Spring, N.Y.:

  • Visited the remains of the Titanic wreck in 1993
  • Has interviewed many survivors and their descendents
  • Wrote Titanic: Triumph and Tragedy, the third edition of which has been released to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the tragedy

Eaton's voyage aboard MS Balmoral will begin in Southampton, England as it traces the route of the Titanic. The 12-night trip will include two days at the wreck site before the ship lands in New York City.

The journey will feature a memorial ceremony from 11:40 p.m. on April 14, to 2:20 a.m. on April 15.

Eaton is co-founder, historian, and trustee for Titanic International Society, a nonprofit that preserves and perpetuates the history of the ship and those who sailed on her maiden voyage.
