Sound Alternatives series at Williams Center for the Arts, Lafayette College
Tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain has thrilled audiences throughout the world with his sensuous and compelling mastery of tabla—including last October's overflow crowd at the Williams Center when he performed with Béla Fleck and Edgar Meyer. This season's collaborator is Niladri Kumar, master of the traditional Indian sitar performance, who will showcase his abundant gifts as a Ravi Shankar–tutored sitarist and wizard of the "zitar," a specially designed combination of sitar and guitar, devised by Kumar himself, to explore electric pick-up and fresh explorations of sound.
