Foreign Film at Easton Area Public Library

LIBRARY TO SCREEN FILM FROM THE CZECH REPUBLIC

Protektor, a film from the Czech Republic, will be shown at Library at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7. The film was the Czech Republic’s official entry for the 2009 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

It’s Prague in 1938, and Emil, a radio reporter, is married to Hana, an actress whose new film has catapulted her to fame. As the Nazis come to power, however, Hana’s Jewish heritage precipitates her fall from stardom to the bottom of the social ladder. To protect her, Emil begins collaborating with the new Nazi-controlled radio station. However, as Emil starts enjoying the attention and respect that had previously evaded him, his fidelity and loyalty toward his wife begin to falter. The assassination of the Third Reich Protector and a chance encounter bring their marriage to a crisis.
