Charlie Daniels Band, Bill Engvall Added to State Theatre Lineup

State Theatre adds six new shows for 2014 seasons.

Country rocker Charlie Daniels and Blue Collar comedian Bill Engvall are part of a slate of new performers joining the State Theatre's line-up for 2014.

The theater announced Tuesday that it had added six additional shows for next year. Tickets will go on sale to theater members Dec. 3 at 10 a.m., and to the public Dec. 10 at 10 a.m.

The shows are:

  • Chaise Lounge, Friday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Acopian Ballroom. The theater describes the group as the "combination of five of the Washington area’s top jazz musicians playing sparkling arrangements of standards and original tunes and featuring the soft, luminous vocals of Marilyn Older."
  • Gia Mora & Charlie Barnett: Modern Songbook, Friday, March 7 at 7 p.m. in the Acopian Ballroom. This show features Actor/vocalist and raconteuse Gia Mora and pianist/composer Charlie Barnett.
  • Paul Byrom, Friday, March 14, 7 p.m. Ireland’s premier tenor and original soloist for Celtic Thunder, Byrom returns to the State Theatre after recording a PBS special there in 2013.
  • The Charlie Daniels Band, Friday, March 28, 8 p.m. Best known for his number one hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," Daniels has been recording in the worlds of country and southern rock for over 50 years. His other hits include Long Haired Country Boy,” “The South’s Gonna Do It Again,” “In America,” and “The Legend of Wooley Swamp."
  • Under the Streetlamp, Wednesday, June 25 at 7:30 p.m. Featuring cast members from Broadway's Jersey Boys, Under the Streetlamp performs a mix of doo-wop, Motown and old time rock.
  • Bill Engvall, Saturday, Nov. 22, at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Part of the Blue Collar Comedy tour, comedian Bill Engvall's album Here's Your Sign spent 15 weeks at number one in the Billboard comedy charts. He also starred in his own TBS sitcom, hosted the gameshow Lingo for GSN, and Country Fried Videos and Mobile Home Disasters, for CMT.
