Artist Peche Displaying Works in Easton

Pech Brown's journey has taken her from art to fashion and back to art.

"I would be drawing all the time, drawing what I saw around the house," she said, describing her childhood.

She spent some time in New York City as a fashion designer, before moving from Brooklyn to Easton nine years ago. Once she got to Easton, she began focusing more on her art, which is on display this month at the Terra Cafe.

But you can still see how Peche -- her art work pseudonym -- combines her two careers when you look at her quilt paintings.

Take the one she made of President Obama following his inaguration. It's painted, but the president also wears a necktie made of real fabric that extends beyond the borders of the illustration.

Peche hopes the show helps raise her profile in Easton, and to hopefully open doors for other artists of color.

“You also have to represent the culture," she said. We have a very big story to tell.”

Peche will hold a reception for her work Sunday at Terra from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
