Weed & Seed Rallies Against Illegal Guns in Easton

Easton's Weed & Seed program is asking city churches to hold anti-gun violence vigils Sunday.

Sunday is the one year anniversary of the mass shooting in Arizona that killed six people, and wounded 13 others, including .

In Easton, the city's Weed & Seed program is marking the occasion by asking churches in the community to hold some sort of vigil to remember the victims of gun violence.

Laura Acetta, who heads the program, said seven churches in Easton have agreed to participate in some fashion at services Sunday: , , ,, Christ United Methodist, Legacy Ministries, and the Rock Church.

"Each church is at liberty to do what they wish during the normally scheduled services," Acetta said.

"It might be praying together, individually, a moment of silence, lighting candles, etc. The idea was simply for the Easton faith community to join the nation in remembering gun violence victims and calling attention to individual community violence and the fact that it needs to stop."

Easton has had two shootings in the last month alone. Acetta said she hopes residents will take the pledge created by the group CeaseFirePA to fight illegal gun violence.
