Viewfinder: South Side Memorial Day Observance

American Legion, South Side Civic Association, honor the fallen.

Easton’s first observance of Memorial Day was held on Sunday.

The Rice-Ebner American Legion Auxillary Unit No. 588 and the South Side Civic Association co-sponsored the annual South Side Memorial Day Service, held at 1 p.m. in McKeen Park, next to the fire station, at West Berwick and Reynolds Streets.

About 6o people listened to guest speaker, US Army veteran Waltar Bright,  a native of South Side, deacon at Greater Shiloh Church and a graduate of Easton Area High School and Lafayette College.
Easton Mayor Sal Panto Jr. also spoke during the ceremony.

Jean Morber, president of Rice- Ebner Auxillary gave the welcome. Florence Hixon, president of the South Side Civic Association led the Pledge of Allegiance and gave closing remarks. Winifred Worley, secretary-treasurer, Rice-Ebner Auxillary, conducted the ceremony. Boy Scouts from Troop and Pack 6, raised the flag. Marianne Heimbach , Americanism chairman, Rice-Ebner Auxillary, placed a wreath next to the flagpole.
