Two-Way Route 22 Traffic Could Return By Christmas

Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission says work on Route 22 bridge project is at its halfway point for the year.

Commuters who use the Route 22 bridge between Easton and Phillipsburg could get an early Christmas present this year: the return of two-way traffic.

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission says major work on the bridge is at its halfway point for the year, and could wrap up by December 13, barring any unforeseen setbacks.

If that's the case, the DRJTBC says Route 22 could return to two-lane traffic on the bridge before Christmas, and remain that way until March 2014.

The commission began closing lanes in July as part of a $30 million project to rehabilitate the bridge between Easton and Phillipsburg, as well as some of the surrounding exits and overpasses. The project is expected to wrap up in 2015.
