Traffic Alert: 3-Day Route 611 Detour Starts Monday

Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission closing part of Route 611 to make Route 22 repairs.

A three day detour along Route 611 near the Route 22 toll bridge in Easton will begin Monday morning, according to the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission.

The detour will involve the section of Route 611 that crosses under Route 22 immediately west of the toll bridge, and goes into effect Monday at 9 a.m.

While the road is closed, the DRJTBC will set up cranes and install steel support beams. The commission hopes to have the road reopened by 5 p.m. Wednesday. The commission had closed this section of the roadway earlier this month.

The commission will post detour signs around Route 22 via Third Street in Easton. The detour is subject to change to due to weather, traffic and emergencies.

The detour is part a $30 million project to rehabilitate the bridge between Easton and Phillipsburg, as well as some of the surrounding exits and overpasses.

The work is expected to take until early 2015, and will involve Route 22 being reduced to one lane during part of that time -- six months this year and another nine months in 2014.
