Skateboard in Centre Square This Weekend

Inaugural Skate Jam coming to downtown Easton Sept. 14.

This Saturday, Easton's Centre Square belongs to skateboards.

Starting at 3 p.m., Drinky's will host the first ever Skate Jam, a sort of cousin to the snow-boarding event the downtown bar hosted in 2011 and 2012.

It will utilize both the city's mobile skate park and ramps from sponsor company Red Bull, and give amateur skaters a chance to show their stuff, and get a glimpse of professionals like X-games star Matt Lindenmuth, a Kutztown native.

Lindenmuth's Saucony Creek Brewing Company is a sponsor, along with Drinky's, Coors, Brass Knuckle Automotive/Cycle, the city, and Homebase Skate Shop.

But the day isn't just about skateboarding. Drinky's manager Tom Urglavtich said the event will also feature a beer tent, numerous DJs, and scrimmages featuring the Two Rivers Roller Derby against other roller derby teams.

In addition, local artists will paint eight-foot murals at during the event. Those murals will be auctioned off to raise money for the Easton Main Street Initiative.

Mayor Sal Panto said he hopes the event can show younger residents what downtown Easton has to offer.

"That's what we want to do, to get young people out of the malls and the shopping centers" and into the urban center, Panto said last week.
