Sigal Ready to Mark Its Third Birthday

Although it focuses on Northampton County's centuries-old past, the Sigal Museum is still basically an infant.

Next weekend, the Sigal will celebrate its third year by giving a gift: free admission to the museum on Saturday, Aug. 10 and Sunday, Aug. 11.

That's just part of the celebration, which includes a number of events all weekend:

• Saturday, 10 a.m: Parade from the Easton Farmers' Market to the museum, followed by an opening ceremony, and cake.
• Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m: A fraktur workshop (a form of Pennsylvania German folk art) for kids and adults.
• Saturday, noon to 3 p.m: Storyteller and historian John Moore will portray a number of characters, including Edward Marshall, the infamous “Walking Purchase” walker (and ancestor of Moore), a Native American gardener, a hunter-fisherman and a European trader with local Lenape Indians.
• Saturday, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m: Jean Sattler will demonstrate the art of sheep to shawl spinning.
• Sunday, 2 p.m: The third annual "Fashion Throughout History." This year's theme is “Fashion Rationed – American Styles of WWI and WWII," and focuses on how the wars, and the shortages that came with them, influenced clothing styles.
