Menorah Lit in Easton's Centre Square

Annual Hanukkah tradition continues in downtown Easton.

Under the shadow of the Peace Candle Tuesday night, a small group gathered in Centre Square to light a set of smaller, but no less important, candles.

Each year, Chabad of the Lehigh Valley hosts a small gathering in the square at some point during the eight nights of Hanukkah to light a menorah, the traditional symbol of the festival.

With the help of a city bucket truck, Mayor Sal Panto and state Rep. Bob Freeman joined Rabbi Yaacov Halperin in lighting the candles in the menorah. This year, Hanukkah began on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 8, and ends Sunday, Dec. 16.
