Gym at Larry Holmes Site is 'More Than Just Boxing'

Easton Area School Board member Frank Pintabone sets up new boxing gym in place where Larry Holmes once trained.

These days, if you see Frank Pintabone's name in the news, it's likely because of his position as a member of the Easton Area School Board.

But before his days of sparring with school administrators, Pintabone was a boxer, winning the Golden Gloves regional tournament in 2004.

Now, Pintabone is hoping his experience in the ring can help young people in his South Side Easton neighborhood.

"They're going to learn more than just boxing," Pintabone said, noting that he'll have tutors for the kids, and is working with Compost, the downtown garden center, to set up a gardening program.

Saturday's open house will feature a glove-work demonstration at 1 p.m. from Jeffrey Dorsey Holmes, Larry's grandson, following a ribbon cutting with Mayor Sal Panto at noon.
