Some fun places to go this week with the kids

Welcome to the Grab & Go Kids Planner.

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children.

Each week, we'll give you the info on the best family activities or events for the week.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

 1. Easton Farmer's Market

Where/When: Easton's Centre Square, Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: It's the country's oldest continuing farmer's market, and it opens for the season this weekend with the National Herb Day festival. Kids can learn how to plant their own herb garden.

2.  Barnyard Days at Phillipsburg High School

Where/When:  Phillipsburg High School, 200 Hillcrest Blvd., Phillipsburg NJ. Wednesday May 4, 2:30 p.m.  – 8:00 p.m.

Why Go:  Sponsored by the Future Farmers of America this program teaches children about agriculture. See a variety of barnyard animals as well as a tractor display.  

 

3.  Literacy in the Kitchen   

Where/When:   Young Chefs Academy (http://www.youngchefsacademy.com/) 2210 Corriere Road, Easton. Thursday May 5, 10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.

Why Go:  Make a mothers day breakfast. Linzer tart French Toast! Afterwards hear a story.

4.   Karate Classes for the Little Ones - Acorns

Where/When:  Family Tree Karate (http://familytreekarate.com/) 2820-30 Emrick Boulevard, Bethlehem. Mondays and Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m.

Why Go:   Your child will begin the martial arts experience while developing focus, respect and listening skills. Acorn program is for ages 4 and 5.

Price:  $85.00 a month (Uniform and graduation fees will also apply)

 

5.   Kids in the Kitchen

 Where/When:  Wegmans (http://www.wegmans.com) Saturday May 7, 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Why Go:  After putting on a paper hat and an apron your child will enjoy kid friendly food preparation; A hands on activity with fun food facts. This week’s project: Super Sunrise for mom. Children will prepare a mothers day breakfast for two.

Price:  $5.00 with Wegmans shopping club card. Must pre-register with customer service.

 

6.  “Do- it-Yourself” Kids Workshop

Where/When:  Home Depot (http://www.homedepot.com/) 721 S. 25th Street, Easton.  Saturday, May 7,  9:00 a.m. – noon.

Why Go:  The workshop will teach your child do-it-yourself skills as well as tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Kids ages 5 – 12 welcome.  This week’s project:  a tulip planter. A great Mothers Day gift.

Price:  Free.
