Crayola Expands Its Experience in Easton

Crayola Experience has opened 18,000 square feet of new space.

If you visited the Crayola Factory Friday morning, you'd have seen kids drawing on high-tech light boards, making paper-bag "space suits," or using a device that turns markers into a airbrush.

And if you've been to the before, and all that stuff sounds new to you, it's because, well, it is new.

Crayola unveiled these new features Thursday as part of an 18,000 square foot expansion, moving into space once occupied by the National Canal Museum.

The museum has since moved to Hugh Moore Park.

On Friday morning, Victoria Lozano, Crayola's VP of corporate strategy and development, showed off some of the new features, which also include a gallery featuring children's artwork.

"It's an opportunity to see first-hand how intelligent...complex, kids' art can be," she said.

To that end, each work features a short description of what the children were thinking about. One of them, age 7, drew a picture of a cow, and described a pretty detailed dream: "I dreamed I was a longhorn..."

Lozano also pointed out recent, although not brand new, features. There's a photobooth that allows visitors to put their image on the page of their own coloring book -- featuring Spiderman, Disney princesses, or Lightning McQueen from the Cars movies -- and a "dry erase car," essentially an old sports car coated with dry-erase material, allowing kids to draw on the surface.
