Boston Marathon Blasts: 'Remember Our Differences'

Centre Square service brings together local churches and synagogues to pray for marathon attack victims.

When the Boston Marathon explosions happened Monday, Rabbi Daniel Stein's thoughts went to a friend who was running.

The friend was OK, but Stein had a realization.

"I wasn't the only person who had that kind of anxiety," said Stein, rabbi of Wilson's Bnai Abraham Synagogue.

It was in that spirit that he and leaders of other houses of worship reached out Thursday evening for a short prayer service in Centre Square in memory of the victims of the Boston Marathon blasts, which killed three people and wounded several dozen more.

The attacks in Boston, Stein said, were what happens when people see others who are different and react with fear.

Stein asked the 50 or so people holding candles as dusk filled the square to remember that what makes us different can bring us together as strongly as what makes us the same.
