What's the Best Place to Get a Haircut in Easton?
Barber or salon, pick your favorite haircut spot in Easton.
There are quite a few places to get your hair cut in Easton. Barbershops are on the rise, and there's any number of spas/beauty salons.
Way too many, in fact, to place them all in our poll this week.
So I'm keeping it to 12 entries, based on suggestions from our Facebook page, what's in our directory, and a wish to include all four sections of the city, as well as some places in Wilson.
As always, we invite readers to suggest anything you think we missed. If enough people back you up, I'll add it to the poll.
- Leo's Barber Shop
- Suddenly Samantha
- Philosophie
- Bodacious
- Brooklyn Barbershop
- Matraxia Hair Salon
- Dawn Morello's Crowning Glory
- Deb Flavelle's Hair Salon
- The Barbershop Plus
- Flow Factory
- Sanctuary
- Salon William
- J. Morgan
- The Strand
And if your favorite place happens to be in Forks or Palmer, Bethlehem or Nazareth, check out the polls on those sites.

I don't think it does, that would be in the Forks Patch. I think. I don't get it myself.

No, College Hill is part of Easton, but like I said above, I can't include every place in the city, or there'd be around 50 choices in the poll. If enough people say "J. Morgan," I'll add it.

It is the oldest continuous barbershop in the Easton area. Originally called Easton Sanitary/Mancino Brothers on 1000 block of Butler Street in the 1930's. Then in the 1970's the Mancino Brothers' (Lawrence and Alfonso) nephew, Anthony, took over. Eventually, around 1998, Anthony and Alex moved the shop to Northampton Street in Wilson Borough.

Leo's! On Fourth Street at Spring Garden. Leo----Leonello Emili---is one of Easton's treasures. He is one of our community leaders. No other barber can make that claim. Ask a couple of the local politicians who did not pass muster with Leo and suffered the ignominy of NOT having their election posters placed in his window. They lost, interestingly. Windowless and winless.
Leo speaks perfect Italian---and local dialetti!---and very imaginative, eloquent English. He has a repertory of enchanting stories with which he entertains ALL those blessed persons that sit in his venerable chair. He will cut anybody's hair, no matter how matted and messy. He once whispered to me that only a few of his clients were "barboncini disordinati!"---messy poodles! But you can be sure that he gave them beautiful haircuts none the less. Bei tagli!
Un tesoro, Leo!!

Hate to split hairs. Are not barber shops different from hair salons in licensing requirements and services? It's much more difficult to be licensed as a barber in comparison to cosmetologist. Some of those listed operations are not true barbershops-they cannot exhibit the striped pole. I would not trust them for a shave, maybe a manicure. And, besides give me a baritone and "eh, Figaro, Figaro, Figaro" The "Barber of Seville" lives! (Figaro, our barber hero, identifies himself as a "factotum"- a jack of many trades. "Ehi, Figaro; son qua!
Figaro qua, Figaro là,Figaro su, Figaro giù.Pronto, prontissimo son come il fulmine,
sono il factotum della città.Ah, bravo, Figaro, bravo, bravissimo,A te la fortuna
non mancherà. La la ran la, ecc.Sono il factotum della città") Sit in a barber chair and you get the latest in local politics, economics and sports. Just can't do that in a cosmetologist's chair. Long live the barber and the razor cut!

Barbershops and salons do offer different services, but the licensing requirements for each may vary from state to state--I'm not sure.
A cosmetologist, at least to my perception, doesn't cut hair--they do makeup, nails, beauty treatments, etc. So the requirements would be lower, I think, than a licensed hair stylist or barber.
My grandfather was a barber (a long time ago in NYC--he claimed the Beatles were to blame for the demise of men's grooming ), but he went to school to do women's hair first, which at least at the time, was more involved. He switched to barbering because he could be more direct with men--he really hated having the customer constantly badger him as he worked. Apparently he was rather good at what he did, regardless of the Beatles. (He would have done you right, apov!) There are family stories of how he'd get annoyed and ask certain customers not to come back if they bugged him too much--but apparently they all did, usually sooner rather than later, with their hat in hand, a bad haircut on their heads and an apology on their lips.
(Not sure if it's a Greek thing, a family thing or both, but apparently I come from a line of folks with a low tolerance for BS. Alas, I have nothing else to offer to the discussion of favorite hair cutting venues. One of the advantages of wearing your hair long is that I haven't visited one in 26 years!)

Ok, that's three for J. Morgan, so they'll get added to the list.
As for the barber/cosmetologist question: the poll is basically about where people go to get their hair cut. For some people, like me, that's a barber. I don't need anything fancy. Other people might want a bit more done.
I've gone to Hair Cuttery style places in a pinch, and -- as Another POV points out -- one thing that's always missing from them is the conversation.

I know this poll is long gone, but I just wanted to clarify that there is legally a big difference between barbershops and hair salons. They each adhere to specific regulations. That being technically stated, there is CULTURALLY an even larger drift between the two. To combine these two business together within future polls just makes the poll itself moot and obsolete.

Hair 48, Jimi Harrison's salon! He's been cutting my hair for almost 30 years! He's always had a salon in Easton and he's the best in my book.
