The Wall: Post a Message to Veterans
Post a picture, a poem or a comment about the veterans in your life and in our country.
Chances are you know a veteran. There are more than 21.8 million of them in the United States, according to the 2010 Census.
Each year, on Nov. 11, the country honors their service... So today and tomorrow, we're offering you a chance add your pictures, comments, stories and memories about your service, or about the veterans in your life.
FACTS ABOUT VETERANS DAY (Source: 2010 American Community Survey)
Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed legislation in 1954 to change the name to Veterans Day as a way to honor those who served in all American wars.
- As of 2010 there were approximately 1.6 million female U.S. veterans.
- In 2010 there were approximately 7.6 million Vietnam War-era veterans (35 percent of the total U.S. veteran population).
- There are approximately 3.4 million U.S. veterans with a service-related disability.
