Take Our Poll: Is Santa Here Too Early?

Santa arrived at Lehigh Valley Mall on Veterans Day

Sure, you've come to expect Christmas merchandise filling store shelves before Halloween has faded into the pre-winter darkness.

But this year, Santa Claus arrived at Lehigh Valley Mall on Veterans Day - Nov. 11. Similarly, you'll find Santa is also ready for his close-up at Palmer Park Mall near Easton and at South Mall near Allentown.

The Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley are following a more traditional calendar. Santa will arrive in Center Valley for a tree-lighting event on Nov. 26 - the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

So what do you think?

Two thumbs up to Nordstroms, who will not market Christmas until after Thanksgiving.

Every kid should know that Santa comes every year on December 6, not before or after! :) (Get to know the real Santa Claus!)

Thanks for reminding us of St. Nicholas Day, Father Damick. You just brought back a fond memory of when I was in Catholic school in seventh or eighth grade and we got ice cream on Dec. 6 to celebrate the saint's feast day! Another treat was having an Advent Calendar and opening a little window on it each day as Christmas approached.

We celebrate "Nikolaus" too, but he comes in addition to Santa. Nikolaus leaves sweets and a small presents in your boots over night... of course only of they are clean and you have been good. Otherwise you get coal.
Santa (der Weihnachtsman - Christmas man if you translate it directly) comes on the eve of Christmas on December 24th and brings the presents to the children personally. We had to recite a poem or sing a song for him, and the bad kids would get a "beating" with his whip made of twigs. Boy did I fear the Weihnachtsman!

Separately but along these lines, I am disgusted by what I am see happening on traditional family holidays like Thanksgiving.

This year Target, Macy’s, Best Buy and Kohl’s say they will be opening their doors at midnight Thursday. Wal-Mart will open at 10 p.m.

I have pledged to not buy ANY Christmas gifts this year from ANY of these or other retailers who open before Friday morning. I don't care what discounts or enticements that they offer.

Enough is enough!

I grew up watching the Thanksgiving Day parade waiting for the big moment when Santa arrived...THEN he would show up at the malls and the (Christmas) holiday season began. It's just not the same seeing aisles of holiday stuff all mixed in together like the mix-n-match candy section of the super market. That was a long time ago when Black Friday and the weekend following it were full of decking the halls and not looking for bargains.

We can all debate until we are blue in the face about Santa and his arrival. We all do not want to dismiss Thanksgiving as one of the most important holidays, and we want enjoy the informal festivities of Halloween. But, what I do not want to hear is how retailers are showing less sales this year, making me feel bad about not spending my money, when after all the season does not officially begin until Black Friday. The retail and media continuously are pushing out the date for Santa earlier, but not adjusting their fiscal calendar to show the true sales and income experienced throughout the ENTIRE season. They continuously show from that Friday on, sending a message that is considerably less than accurate.

Christmas of course is coming very early economy is in the toilet and they are hoping for depression shopping which I believe is in full force so when they say people are spending they are maxing out credit cards because they know they will not be able to pay for it they are sinking so why not go all the way.
