As we reported yesterday, Easton's Weed & Seed program has asked several city churches to hold vigils today to honor the victims of gun violence.
These vigils are timed to coincide with the anniversary of the mass shooting in Arizona last year that killed six people, and wounded 13 others, includng U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
Weed & Seed is working with a group called CeaseFirePA, which is circulating a pledge asking its signers to support efforts to stop illegal handgun use. The group says most gun crimes are committed with illegal guns.
As always, we want to know what our readers think. Easton is no stranger to gun violence, how can we combat it? Offer your ideas in the comments section, or take our poll.

Run all the trash out of the city. They have taken over the city. Look how good Easton was and look the way it is today. It is sickening. Like all the cities have become.
It is all the bad people that have come into the city. It is not the guns. We had guns all our life and they were easy to purchase back then. Not it is harder to purchase a gun but the trash have all the illegal guns

I am a member of both CeaseFire PA and The Mayors Against Illegal Guns. The word in front of guns is ILLEGAL. The story portrayed these organizations to be against guns. WE ARE NOT. I own guns myself. We are against criminals getting guns, or purchasing them.
We are in favor of Lost and Stolen Gun Law which clearly identifies when someone either loses a gun or has it stolen. When they realize either they are to notify police. We do that for everything else stolen but not for guns. When a car is stolen we report it becasue - we want to try and get it back; we want to file an insurance claim or if it is used in a bank robbery or is involved ina hit and run we want to make sure the authorities know that we didn't have the car.
If a girlfriend buys a gun for her drug dealing boyfriend and he commits murder she replies "It was taken a month ago." Happened just this year where a State Trooper was killed with a gun purchased by a girlfriend. She got zero time. In my book she bears some guilt.
the other law we are really trying to strengthen is the background check. No it is not being applied uniformly by all states.
MAIG is not anti-gun, nor is CeaseFire PA. We are trying hard to get people to be responsible individuals to own a gun. We are not against good people owning guns. We are not against anyone's Second Amendment rights.
Your headline yesterday was erroneous and only served to further the perception of these organizations being anti-gun.

Fair enough, Mr. Mayor. I've changed the headline. I think both stories make it clear the issue here is ILLEGAL guns.

Well Sal, If I'm not mistaken you took an oath to defend and obey the Constitutions of the United States and Pennsylvania?? Am I not mistaken??
Well if MAIG is not anti-gun, nor is CeaseFire PA, then why did they/you lobby against the Castle Doctrine? Do you know prior to the Castle Doctrine passing, criminals were suing Police Officers as well as Citizens that used force to defend themselves with restraint of trade? Do you know Lost and stolen is just a feel good measure that cannot be enforced and penalizes law abiding people that have already been victimized by these criminals. Check with New Jersey and see how many crimes their law has stopped. It has been on the books for over 7yrs. You say you are not against guns. Then why do they/you lobby for restrictions on law abiding gun owners? Instead you should be going after these DA's that use the gun laws as a bargaining chip then turn these criminals back on to the street? So where is it in the Pennsylvania Constitution that says “Arms” can be regulated? Hint: it does not!!! The 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution was modeled after Pennsylvania’s Right to Bear Arms: Section 21.
“The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned”

Guess what Pennsylvania Constitution doesn’t say: The right of the citizens to bear arms (except Machine Guns, Bad looking rifles, Pistols that hold more than 10 rounds and other scary looking firearms) in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned (except who we The GODvernment designate as acceptable to Open Carry, Conceal Carry, or who we designate are Legally allowed to even own).
I must have missed the caveats’ in the U.S. Constitution and Pennsylvania Constitution where is says “except who we don’t like”. The minute you do this you turn a RIGHT into a privilege. A privilege has limitations attached to it.

MAIG is a program that is against law abiding citizens. It comes from the city with the toughest handgun laws. All it does is disarm the good people. The criminals love these " Common Sense Gun Laws ". Why is it that a lot of these school shootings happen= "Gun free Zone". Preemption is not legal in PA. That means towns can not legally make their own gun laws. The Lost and Stolen laws that towns are passing are not legal. I now have two list of of them, ones that I bought legally in PA, and ones that I bought legally in other states. The second group is not on PSP's illegal data base. Politicians don't care about the law. Both of those groups are anti-gun, and the public needs to know that they are against freedom.
