State Theatre Announces New Season

Chuck Berry, John Waters, Penn & Teller among headliners.

Magicians, an outsider filmmaker and a rock and roll legend are all among the acts slated for the State Theatre's new season,  the theater's 85th.

A complete list of acts can be found here; tickets go on sale to members Aug. 2, and to everyone else Aug. 16.

Among the highlights:

  • The Amazing Kreskin, a "bona fide mentalist," on Sept. 8.
  • In the '80s, Dana Carvey created some of Saturday Night Live's most famous characters. He'll bring his impressionist skills to Easton on Nov. 4.
  • Chuck Berry, a rock and roll pioneer responsible for "Johnny B. Goode," on Nov. 5.
  • Penn & Teller reflect on their 35 year career, and perform a few tricks, on Nov. 8.
  • Hootie & the Blowfish frontman-turned country star Darius Rucker, on Jan. 22., 2012.
  • Director John Waters brings his one-man performance piece "The Filthy Word" on March 8, 2012.

I saw "The Killer" Jerry Lee Lewis and "The Merry Mister" Chuck Berry double headline at a minor league baseball field about 5 years ago. The Duprees, the vocal group responsible for "You Belong To Me" was the opening act. The cost of the ticket was $40. It's $60 just to see Chuck alone at the State. I think treachery's afoot...

Drew - I love Chuck, but the general consensus is his performance is only as good as his mood that particular evening. $60 is a chunk to pay in the hopes he's on an even keel.

John Waters I can vouch is hilarious; I saw him speak years ago in Florida and he's truly a funny guy.
